  Advantages Disadvantages
Existing Space • Easiest access, because you can sit down on the side wall and then swing your legs into the pool. This is especially good for those with limited mobility.
• A raised floor can be an inexpensive way to give a partly in-ground appearance. It can also allow for a deep area with less excavation.
• Allows for year-round swimming in any weather.
• A sunroom makes an attractive and private setting for your pool.
• If you choose partial excavation, it costs less than a full excavation.
• Heating costs are lower than for outdoor pools.		 • Excavation or a raised wooden platform would be needed to create a deep area.
• If the floor is not already concrete, a concrete pad may need to be poured. Concrete also may need to be poured if there is any deep-area excavation.
• If you are raising the floor, your room will need a somewhat higher ceiling.
New Space • Allows for year-round swimming in any weather.
• You can create a unique, beautiful and private custom setting for your pool.

• Any needed concrete can be poured while the room is being built.

• Heating costs are lower than for outdoor pools. 		• A first-floor addition may be one of the more expensive options. Often requires the help of a contractor and/or an architect.
• May require some excavation, especially with a deep area. Excavation adds to the cost and complexity of your installation.
