Leslie combines her skills as an elite Olympic
athlete with her passion for water exercise.
"I'm continually amazed at what I am able
to achieve through water exercise as my primary
training method," says professional water therapist
and trainer Leslie Krichko, who is also a former Olympic
cross-country skier.
Leslie recently celebrated her 39th
birthday by participating in the World Masters Cross
Country Skiing Championships in Lake Placid, NY. Not
living near the snow, she prepared for this international
event by training in water 90 percent of her workout
time. Her performance level at the World Masters exceeded
even her own expectations.
She was pleased to finish in fifth
place twice and sixth place once during the international
competition. She also took three silver medals for the
U.S. Master Championships that were held concurrently.
Leslie was first named to the U.S. Olympic
ski team at age 21 in 1980. In the next couple
of years, an overuse injury forced her to retire from
skiing. In 1986, when she set her sights on the 1988
ski team, her injury returned. It was then that Leslie
learned the "power of water" to aid in post-surgical
rehabilitation and endurance training.
Leslie was so convinced by this "power"
that only months before the Olympic trials,
she risked another surgery. Indeed, she became the top
American finisher in the 1988 games in Calgary. She
credits her performance and full recovery to her daily
deep water workouts. Click
