"More and more, I'm coming to appreciate that it's good for much more than swimming." |
Given Alan Tripp's background in
the marketing and development of new products, and listening
to him discuss the Endless Pool, he could have invented
it. And he almost did, since he purchased one of the
company's first prototypes in 1989.
Featured in our first promotional
video praising the Endless Pool as genuinely life-giving,
Alan's 20- to 30-minute workouts have expanded in both
frequency and variety. Speaking from his winter residence
in La Jolla, CA, the octogenarian Tripp noted: "You
can have four or five different routines occupying the
same 30 minutes, and rotate them. That's one of the
reasons the Endless Pool is something you never get
tired of."
In addition to water walking and jumping, he
recommends a form of isometric pull-up by holding onto
the aqua exercise bar and using the resistance of the
current to soothe and work the shoulders. Alan's wife,
Maggie, has found a form of hydrotherapy that helps
eliminate cellulite by applying the Endless Pool's current
at high speed, much the same principle employed by deep-tissue
massage.
Alan says his Endless Pool "serves different
purposes in different seasons." Enclosed
in a solarium, it creates the sensation of swimming
outdoors in winter, while the solarium's retractable
cover prevents undesired exposure in summer. This has
improved his attitude toward neighbors whose open pools
he sees covered in the off-season. "Psychologically,"
he chuckles, "I lord it over them.
