Triathlete Reviews the Endless Pool

Triathlete Laurie Hug
Laurie Hug (far right) competes at the 2001 Pan-American Triathlon Championships in Clermont, Fla. Laurie posted the fastest swim time among elite women in the race.

I tested the Endless Pool twice -- once at their headquarters in Aston, PA, and then again at their expo in Lake Placid, NY.

I think it's great for open water training -- no walls to push off of, so it is a lot more tiring than pool swimming.

There's a mirror, so you can watch your swim stroke, and you can adjust the swim current to do some drill work or other strokes.

It isn't as boring as I had expected. Then again, for what it's worth, I actually enjoy treadmill runs more than road runs quite often. In fact, the pool is kind of fun!

Laurie Hug is a professional triathlete, top swimmer and a swim coach at Germantown Academy in Philadelphia, PA. She recently reviewed her experience with the Endless Pool on the newsgroup rec.sport.triathlon.
